Relative Keys in Harmonic Mixing

Every minor key shares its notes with one major key — A minor and C major use exactly the same seven notes. These 'relative' pairs share a Camelot number (8A and 8B), which is why the second-best guess from any key detector is very often the relative key: harmonically they're nearly identical, differing mainly in which note feels like home.

For DJs this is good news: if the detector says 8A and the song is 'actually' 8B, every mixing decision you make from the Camelot code still works.

How do I find a track's Camelot key?

How accurate is automatic key detection?

Very reliable on harmonically stable music (pop, electronic, hip-hop). The most common 'miss' is the relative key — e.g. C Major instead of A Minor — which shares the same notes and the same Camelot number, so DJ mixing decisions still hold. That's why the result always shows the second-best guess too.

What is a Camelot code?

It is a DJ-friendly shorthand that arranges all 24 keys on a wheel of 12 numbers: 'A' for minor keys and 'B' for major. Adjacent codes are harmonically compatible, so you can plan mixes without translating the underlying music theory.

Does my file get uploaded?
